New Year is coming and it’s high time to look back and see whether I followed my previous 2019 resolutions or not, and it’s also the right time to write down the new ones.

Here are my previous resolutions:

• Read more books
• Take a technical writing course
• Be more creative
• Become better user advocate

Well, I think that I did my best to follow these resolutions — of course, my year was not ideal in this regard but I tried 😉

Let’s decide what I’ll do in the next year.

Learn some Design Techniques

As you know, many companies create online documentation, so documentation UX is an important part of doc creation. Why? Every user needs some sort of help while using a website, an app, or software. And effective doc design creates a bridge between a user and the product. It also helps users feel confident while using an app, for example, this provides quality product development. That’s why I would want to take a course on UX and read some relevant books.

Collaborate More

I worked a lot this year and I didn’t visit tech writing conferences. In 2020, I want to visit at least 3 conferences. I’ll create a list of upcoming meetups and conferences, so you could also share my resolution.

Plan Workload Realistically

As I worked a lot, I was a little bit stressful because I tried to plan my tasks more realistically. So, instead of planning workload by necessity — the “everything must get done no matter what it takes” method, I’ll plan workload based on the time tasks take to complete. I’ll also estimate the amount of time required for each step of the technical documentation process, including reviews and subject matter expert availability, and put together a calendar schedule.
