Smartphones are the gadgets that are widely used and have influenced many people’s lives at an ascending rate. Anyone can access smartphones anywhere and anytime. According to the study, there will be more than 6.1Bn users by 2020.

Beyond calling and messaging, other features require more attention in enhancing user experience. The other features are placing an order, mobile securities, banking, and many more.

There are usability principles of interface design that should be taken care of. However, it becomes important to satisfy those principles that are as follows:

● Memorability

● Errors

● Satisfaction

● Learnability

● Efficiency

Also, along with the above principles, 6 best-tested principles deliver effective results and extract the best outcome of it.

1. Intuitive Navigation

The navigation through the application should be smooth and hassle-free. It should be intuitive and engaging that a user can easily access the application.

The user should not require to ask multiple questions at a time because of navigation. It ends up in irritation, and there might be a chance that a user may uninstall the application.

When a user installs an app, he/she aims to fulfill their task through it. So, it becomes mandatory for the app owner to create an app that accomplishes the task without any investment of additional time and effort.

Also, the design of the app should be simple and easily understandable to the user. Otherwise, the user may end up being in a tab, which they even don’t and also will not be able to come out to the home page.

2. Legibility

Readability of the given content is essential for the application. If the user ends up not reading the text or content, then it will be a waste of time in placing the content at that spot. Legibility and space conservation are the two important factors for optimal mobile typography.

One should always keep in mind the minimum size of the content while designing an app. Generally, it is 11 points, or you can say 16 pixels that are sufficient to read.

Also, you should not oversize the fonts as it reserves extra space, and the user might find difficulty in reading such large fonts.

Tip: There should be only 30–40 characters per line for the mobile screen, as it will best fit the typography guidelines.

Also, if you add space between texts that will aid the user in reading, that allows them to understand the content in minimum words with maximum information.

3. Controls

Controls of the hand position should be kept in mind while designing a mobile app. According to sources, there are 49% of people who are only using the thumb to access the app.

The above study constantly rings a bell that an app should be designed in such a way that it accommodates the thumb reach.

There is a particular zone for every thumb reach. For example, a zone that seems a difficulty in reaching is Hard.

On the other hand, the zone that a user can reach by stretching thumb is the stretching zone while the easily accessible features are known as Natural zone.

Accessibility plays an important role in navigation. Different OS has different accessibility features. For example, Apple has a feature of double-tapping the home button that drags the entire screen to an easier zone that can be easily reached by the thumb.

Tip: You should also keep in mind the left-handed person, and according to that, an app should be designed.

4. Deliver Seamless Experience

Applications are made to simpler the lives of the people, and if that requires a lot of time investment, then it is surely going flop in the market.

Along with simple access, it requires a hassle-free experience. The key to the success of the application depends on delivering an app that provides effective and time-efficient service.

Seamless experience can prove to be an asset to you. It will not be visible to the user, but they can feel the best experience the first time, and that will leave a long-lasting impression in the minds of the customer.

While designing an application, an app owner should focus on key points such as page loading speed, minimizing steps to fulfill the requirement and reduction in frictions.

Also, an app should deliver the result even if it is not connected to the internet that will save a lot of time of the user, and they will prefer your app over the other.

You can extract out the benefits of Camera, GPS, and touch ID to scan the barcodes, identify the locations, and place code, respectively.

If the user needs not to have to put in extra efforts to fulfill their requirement, then they will surely be going to love your application and would also recommend it to others.

5. Effective Content

The content should be minimum and effective. The humans have a very short span that lasts long for a maximum of 8 seconds. It becomes challenging for an app owner to deliver effective content in such a short period.

Applications are more of a service and less of content. Only required content should be placed that retains the user and manipulates them to avail of the services.

You should only display essential elements, and the rest area of the screen should be utilized in enhancing the user experience.

When the above-mentioned primary thing is fulfilled, the second part is to set the content in the menu or hamburger bar.

The primary content should not be hampered, and also the new notifications should be pop-up regularly.

6. Tab Size

The tab size is also an essential element when designing an application as it plays an important role in enhancing user experience or leaves the user irritated or frustrated.

It is important to make a user interface elements sufficiently big so that the user can smoothly and without extra precision can go through the app.

According to Apple’s iPhone Human Interface Guidelines suggests that the minimum target size should be 44 Pixels wide and tall.

On the other hand, Microsoft suggests that a touch target size of 9mm/34Px, and also a minimum size should be 7mm/26Px.

Moreover, it would be best if you also considered spacing between the action buttons. If there is not enough space between the action button, then a user might end up tapping the wrong button and may commit mistakes.

The chances of tapping the undesired button increase by keeping target buttons small. It is important to maintain a space between the contradictory button, i.e., Save & Delete.

Building an application requires meticulous research and so you have to bring all the things in the plate before cooking. Choosing the platform is the foremost thing before thinking about an idea.

If we talk about iOS, then it is the best-suited platform for building tailored-made B2B applications. You can go through the above article for more information about the customized applications.

Wrap Up

User experience is important while designing an application. The design and development of the application should be in such a way that it enhances their experience and retain the customers.

Also, the service should be effective that can bring in new customers. Delivering outstanding user experience should be a key focus of the app owner.
